Key Intelligence

Slovakia's draft act proposes MIRRI as general MSA, SPOC, and central coordinator, with an expected effective date of January 2026 — but implementation status remains unclear and no formal EC notification has been confirmed

Slovakia has maintained CERAI (Centre for Ethical and Responsible AI) as an advisory body since 2020, giving it an unusual longevity of AI governance thinking relative to its formal implementation progress

Bratislava's proximity to Vienna and its role in cross-border automotive supply chains with Volkswagen, Stellantis, and Kia creates significant embedded AI exposure in manufacturing — the highest-risk category for a country with limited compliance infrastructure

The absence of confirmed MSA designation and no published compliance guidance leaves Slovak businesses — particularly in the automotive and financial services sectors — navigating EU AI Act obligations without any national institutional support

Slovakia's implementation trajectory is among the least visible in Central Europe, with limited public signals from MIRRI and no announced timeline for formal authority designation — making it one of the hardest EU member states to track for compliance monitoring purposes

MIRRI (proposed) ↗

Status: Awaiting Designation

Notes: The Slovak draft law now proposes a redesigned governance structure: a new "Office of Digital Integrity" (UDI) is proposed as a super-regulator, replacing the earlier proposal for MIRRI as general MSA. UDI would absorb AI Act, Data Act, and Data Governance Act competencies and would be the market surveillance authority, with powers to oversee high-risk AI systems, manage regulatory sandboxes, and impose fines of up to €20M or 4% of global turnover for data violations. The draft law expected to take effect January 2026 has not been confirmed as enacted. CERAI (advisory body) has existed since 2020. Bird & Bird tracker (current) confirms: "no specific national enacted legislation regulating AI in Slovakia." No formal designation, no EC notification.
