Key Intelligence

The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MPO) leads Czech AI Act implementation, having prepared a draft law in September 2025 and launched an AI Act accelerator to help businesses prepare — but the draft has not been notified to the European Commission as of April 2026

Czech Republic's AI Act accelerator is one of the more innovative SME support mechanisms in Central Europe, providing structured guidance for companies assessing their AI systems against the Act's risk categories ahead of formal enforcement

Prague's tech ecosystem — home to Avast (now Gen Digital), Kiwi.com, and a growing AI startup cluster — is among the most mature in CEE, with significant AI applications in cybersecurity, travel tech, and enterprise software carrying direct provider obligations

The absence of formal authority designation means Czech businesses face the same directly applicable EU Regulation obligations without jurisdiction-specific enforcement clarity — a gap that the accelerator programme partially compensates for through practical guidance

Czech Republic's strong manufacturing base, particularly in automotive supply chains for Škoda, Toyota, and Hyundai production, creates significant embedded AI exposure in safety-critical industrial systems that may trigger Annex III classification

Notes: The Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade (MPO) has completed preparation of the Draft Law on Artificial Intelligence, implementing the EU AI Act nationally. As of April 2026 (MPO publication, Stuchlikova legal blog), the draft was in the final stages of the inter-ministerial comment procedure. Czech Telecommunications Office (CTU) is confirmed as both the primary supervisory authority and SPOC. Czech National Bank (CNB) supervises financial-sector AI. Office for Personal Data Protection also part of the supervisory system. Czech Office for Standards, Metrology and Testing (ÚNMZ) acts as notifying authority. ČAS operates the regulatory sandbox. CZK 232M budgeted for 2026–2028. The government approved the Draft Implementation Plan in May 2025. Law expected in force in 2026 before the August 2 deadline.
